sexual deviancy is not islamic

first: bismillahir-rahmanir-rahim…in the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

now, to the point:
sexual deviancy is NOT islamic.

i’m talking about rape, incest and the like.
i’m talking about those stories you hear
in the news,
and, astaghfirAllah, from the lips of people you may know
about muslim women/men/children being raped
by relatives, strangers or whomever
with a perceived or actual silence from their muslim community.

i am a muslim convert
– or “revert” as we converts like to say –
and mother,
and add to that parent of three girls.
that’s to say,
i’ve got a lot at stake:
my faith, my womanhood, my girl-children.

if you read/hear about these horrible happenings
please try to keep these things in mind:

  1. in islam, sexual relations outside of marriage is forbidden.
so, if you’re not married, you should not be having sex.
and if you are married, you should only be having sex with the person to whom you’re married.
    simple.
    it logically follows that rape
    – an act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person –
    and incest
    – sexual intercourse between related persons –
    are forbidden.
islam has rules on who is marriageable:
see the quran, surah an-nisa (chapter 4), verse 23.
  2. islam allows room for culture,
    and unfortunately,
cultural traditions and inclinations sometimes supersede islam.
please try to separate the islam from the culture.
    they are not always congruent.
  3. for every silent community you see seeming to condone
the horrid behavior of these wayward perverts,
there is an equal community of muslims
that are appalled at their behavior,
and that they have the nerve to call themselves muslims.

muslims are a diverse people
who are continually striving
to enjoin what is right
and forbid what is wrong.
however, some of us are carrying putrid social, cultural, and personal baggage
– inshaAllah, we’re working on it though –
and have yet to let the boundless, pure, illuminative light of Allah
shine into every nook, cranny, taboo, superstition and deviation.

go ‘head and google sheikh so-n-so
– may i suggest
sheikh yusuf al-qaradawi’s “The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam
or sunnipath.com –
but it’s really quite simple.

stepping off the soapbox now.

just had to get that off my chest.
