turkish pants

remember MC Hammer and bobby brown in the 90’s
whipping around in black turkish pants
and black patent leather shoes
with some colorful top
that just didn’t seem to quite go?
that’s my memory of turkish pants.
plus, i think i had a pair or two.
they also went by hammer pants or parachute pants, i think.

but i don’t think i thought they REALLY came from turkey.
but, LO! at the playground yesterday,
a older turkish woman made it official:
turkish pants are still alive and well
in turkey, no less.
her’s were flowered
and hiked up right under her ample, aged bosom.
her shirt was tucked in
showing off every gather in the elastic waist.
a long, knee-length cardigan
– part of every turkish woman’s daily, fall uniform, it seems –
contrasted the droop of the turkish pants.
