4th of july at centennial park
we rode marta
and joined the throngs of people downtown
at centennial olympic park
waiting to see the fireworks.
as soon as sanaa saw the port-o-potties
she had to used the bathroom.
the lines were long
and there was a unsavory stench
wafting from the row of blue pee-boxes.
fortunately sanaa wasn’t my partner on this outing;
ishaq had to take her.
afterwards, we found a little space among the lounging crowds.
laid out our bamboo mat
and waited for dark.
it was a great show.
the music to which the fireworks were timed
reminded me of my days as an air force brat.
e.g. “and i’m proud to be an american,
where at least i know i’m freeeeeee….”
the best was when rahmah said near the end of the show:
“mommy, i think my heart like these fireworks!”
