after a long line of men with names like
washington, adams and jackson,
to lincoln, cleveland and roosevelt,
and eisenhower, kennedy, carter and bush
we might have someone with a name like
obama
for president?

a country founded on the labor of people deemed
less than human because of the color of their skin
is ready
for a man of mixed african
(for-real-kenyan type african)
and euro-american heritage
to be its leader?!?
what!

“everybody” it talking about it:
on the radio, on tv news,
on the front pages of newspapers,
and the newest blog entries
worldwide,
even lil ole, apolitical me.

six months ago
i would have not believed,
