eid mubarak! 1428 / 2007
how do you know ramadhan is over in amman?
more fireworks than usual, of course.
there was just one eid prayer at our local masjid.
they announced that it was at 7:15 am,
and, to my surprise,
they were not on arab-time
and it happened right about then.
after the prayer there was a rush of cars from the masajid
off to visit extended relatives
to exchange gifts, money,
and consume lots of tea with mint and sweets
– or “bonbony” as sanaa told me.
raana (of silver envelope fame — big up! )
invited us over for an eid breakfast.
i practically gorged myself on yogurt with vanilla, jam, and peaches,
some type off egg and potato souffle,
and tea and sweets, of course.
eid mubarak!
may Allah accept our dua, salah, and acts of charity during this past ramadhan
and help us continue them throughout the year.
from BBCnews:

Tens of thousands of Muslims gather to pray at the Saudi Arabian holy city of Mecca’s Grand Mosque to mark the end of Ramadan and the start of the three-day festival of Eid al-Fitr.

The Empire State Building in New York is lit up in green to mark the Islamic festival of Eid.
