the dead sea and mount nebo
mashaAllah!
i had a lot of pictures from the dead sea and mount nebo
but these are the only ones that survived.
i accidentally erased them when importing from my camera.
we visited these places during the eid holiday.

the dead sea on the jordan side is…well…underdeveloped.
families come and park their cars as close as they dare go
on the hilly, muddy, sea shore
and barbeque or picnic.
men swim in whatever.
women swim, too, but fully clothed.
i saw this one dude in boxers
with dead sea mud covering his skin.
we rode camels and horses in a nearby parking lot.
wish you could’ve seen ishaq, sanaa, rahmah and i up on the camel and horse.
some folks were shouting “siyyidi bilal!”
when the camel guide put his kifayyah (red and white scarf) on ishaq’s head.

sanaa and rahmah got covered in mud.
the water and weather were surprisingly warm.
if they had swimsuits they would’ve been in the water.
and mount nebo…the view was gorgeous.

it’s the place where moses looked out on the promised land.

supposedly he is even buried in the area
but no one can say where definitively.
there is a church on the site
that still has services
even though part of it is excavated
showing an ancient mosaic tile floor.

pope john paul visited the area.
i think it’s been designated as a holy spot by the catholic church.
