the flight to amman

we took british airways
from IAD (washington dulles) at around 10 pm.
with a 3 hour or so layover in LHR (london heathrow)
and got to amman about 9 in the evening or so.

the flights themselves weren’t that bad.
the food was ai’ight.
they were full.
the line for the bathroom on the LHR-AMM flight was long at one point.
sanaa and rahmah acted OK for children on an 18 hour flight.
at one point i just laid rahmah on the floor.
sanaa kept letting everyone know that she wasn’t comfortable.
a fellow passenger by the bathroom let me know that i probably shouldn’t have been flying at 7 months.
we didn’t go through any customs checks where we had our bags searched.
sanaa through up 4 or 5 times on the LHR-AMM flight.
i guess it was air sickness.
we got all our bags in amman.
all in all, not too eventful.

the only “event” happened at LHR.
anyone flying though LHR should know that
only ONE carry on is allowed for folks tranfering.
and i mean ONE per passenger.
not a carry-on and purse or a carry-on and backpack.
oh-enn-eee…one.
we somehow stuffed my purse and backpack and ishaq’s backpack
into the stuffed carry-ons we had.
it took some doing, but alHamdullilah, it got done.
even after all of that, two separate airport workers
at two seperate times
made us check one of our carry-ons cause the flight was so full.

but we’re here
without too many scars.

i spoke with this one sister
who flew 4 months pregnant with her husband and 2 y/o from houston.
the flight in houston was delayed
so they missed their connection in chicago
and had to stay til the next night there in chicago.
then it was to london
and then on to amman.
she told her husband that she’s not going through that again
with a newborn on the way back.
she’s gotta go first class back to the states.
funny…i had that same thought.
