smithsonian folklife festival
we went to the folklife festival yesterday
and i didn’t bring my camera! man!
there were three major areas:
Carriers of Culture: Living Native Basket Traditions
had basket weavers from all over the US.
there was an “interactive” area where folks got to practice backet weaving
in several ways: with rods and string, with paper, with paper cups and raffia, and with an actual weaver.
great fun and i got ideas of things we could do at home.
we also got to go in a huge teepee.
we did a quicker run through of
Alberta at the Smithsonian
where we touched different types of grains grown in alberta,
saw the famous mounties,
and sanaa got to shoot a bit of hockey.
we did a pass on Nuestra Música: Latino Chicago
cause i didn’t want to be there too long for sanaa to get ornery.
not a pretty sight OR sound.
we may go back again though before it ends on 11 july.
