identity theft: i got a letter!
i used to be in the air force.
i did ROTC then
i did my 4 years and got out in 2001.
as per the agreement,
they kept me on inactive reserve for 4 years.
i was looking forward to getting my nose pierced
to symbolize my, quote, freedom, end-quote.
not really.

the air force dress code probably wouldn’t allow
the locks i’ve been growing since 2001 anyway.
but look what happened:
a couple of days ago ishaq told me i got a letter
saying i was one of the lucky millions
whose personal information was on a laptop stolen
from a government employee’s home last May.
needless to say, i’m thrilled.

Wednesday, June 7, 2006; Page A01Social Security numbers and other personal information for as many as 2.2 million U.S. military personnel — including nearly 80 percent of the active-duty force — were among the data stolen from the home of a Department of Veterans Affairs analyst last month, federal officials said yesterday, raising concerns about national security as well as identity theft.
The department announced that personal data for as many as 1.1 million active-duty military personnel, 430,000 National Guard members and 645,000 reserve members may have been included on an electronic file stolen May 3 from a department employee’s house in Aspen Hill.
