sinead o’conner does roots reggae?!
i would have never put the two together,
but hearing her talk on npr –
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4961027
– helped it make a bit of sense.
she spoke of the similarities between irish and jamaican cultures;
about how they were both colonized by the same people
– jamaica, however, by way of africa –
and how both cultures reverence their Creator
in their daily speech.
i was like “ok, sinead, you’re winning me over a bit.”
the music sounds a bit like
a white girl doing a cover of songs as a tribute to reggae music,
or yet another white girl who has found some salvation in an african-based culture,
but she does have a pretty voice still.

i’m looking at the album art on her web site
and i find out this:
guess what one of her (three) son’s name is?
nevi’im nesta ali shane o’connor
“nesta”?
“ali”
wow.
what is that all about? …smile…
